If you still remember spending weekends at cyber cafes in Petaling Jaya or Johor Bahru – that was where esports in Malaysia was born. The generation that grew up on Warcraft, Counter-Strike and DOTA has come of age, and many of them remain loyal to the digital sports they love – only now in a format that is bigger, more professional and far more rewarding.
Malaysia is today one of the most active players in the Southeast Asian esports ecosystem. Mobile Legends: Bang Bang is the country's top digital sport — MLBB tournaments at school, university, and national level take place nearly every month. Malaysian teams also regularly make their mark on the international stage, making esports betting on Malaysian team matches more than just a financial activity; it's also a way to show support for local talent.
At mtown88, we recognised this potential earlier than most betting platforms. Our E-Sports section was built with a clear focus on the titles that matter most to Malaysian players — MLBB at the top, followed by Dota 2 which has had a dedicated community here since the DotA Warcraft era, and CS2 along with Valorant which are rapidly gaining ground among younger Malaysian gamers. We also cover FIFA/EA FC for football fans who prefer backing digital sports teams over traditional Sports Betting.
For those new to e-sports betting, it's important to understand that it differs from traditional sports betting like football or cricket in several key ways. First, e-sports matches can take place at any time, anywhere in the world – from tournaments in Seoul kicking off at 3am Malaysian time to matches in Los Angeles starting in our evening. This means there are matches you can follow and bet on almost every single day of the year.
Second, esports has far more freely available data than traditional sports. Player stats, team head-to-head records, draft analysis (for MOBA titles like MLBB and Dota 2), win rates by hero or agent — all of this is accessible on community websites and can be used to make more informed betting decisions at mtown88. Bettors who put in the research have a clear edge over those who simply bet on gut feeling.
Third, in-play betting for esports at mtown88 is incredibly exciting. In an MLBB BO3 match, momentum can shift dramatically between Game 1 and Game 2 – a team that looked weaker in the first game may completely switch up their strategy and dominate the second. Odds update dynamically as the match unfolds, giving sharp bettors who can read the game the chance to find exceptional value.

All major global and Southeast Asian esports tournaments are available to follow and bet on through the mtown88 platform.
If there is one esports title that truly belongs to Malaysians, it is Mobile Legends: Bang Bang. From secondary school students in Kelantan to young professionals in Kuala Lumpur, MLBB is more than a game – it is a shared language for Malaysia's digital generation. MPL Malaysia (Mobile Legends Professional League) is one of the most-watched esports leagues in the country, with matches broadcast live to hundreds of thousands of loyal supporters.
MLBB betting at mtown88 goes deeper than most platforms out there. We go well beyond the standard "match winner" market — we offer First Blood (which team draws first blood), First Tower (which team destroys the first tower), Total Kills Over/Under, First Lord, First Turtle, and many more in-game markets. For players who truly understand MLBB mechanics, that means dozens of betting opportunities within every game of a BO3 match.
The M-Series is the pinnacle of global MLBB competition, held once a year and bringing together champion teams from every region – Southeast Asia, South Asia, the Middle East, the Americas and Europe. Malaysia consistently sends competitive squads, and each year there is real hope that a home team will claim the title. When Malaysian teams compete in the M-Series, mtown88 becomes the go-to platform for supporters who want to back their team while having a shot at winning cash.
The Dota 2 community in Malaysia is among the most dedicated and knowledgeable in the esports world. Players who first picked up DotA on Warcraft III in the early 2000s have since grown up, joined the workforce and now have disposable income – but their passion for the game has never faded. The International, Valve's annual Dota 2 championship, is the highest prize pool event in esports history, consistently surpassing tens of millions of USD. At mtown88, we provide exceptionally deep markets for TI and all major Dota 2 tournaments throughout the year.
CS2 (Counter-Strike 2) is the evolution of CS:GO, a title that has long been the backbone of Malaysia's FPS esports community. CS2 Major Tournaments are held four times a year, with 24 of the world's best teams from Europe, the Americas and Asia competing for the title. The multi-map format of CS2 matches makes in-game betting particularly exciting – the situation can shift dramatically from map one to map two, and mtown88 updates our odds on every round.
Valorant has emerged as a major phenomenon in Malaysia's gaming community over the past few years. Riot Games – the same company behind League of Legends – launched Valorant in 2020, and it quickly built a sizeable following in Malaysia. The VCT (Valorant Champions Tour) is the official annual competitive series, culminating in Valorant Champions – the world championship featuring the best teams on the planet. At mtown88, every stage of the VCT comes with comprehensive markets for players who follow the Valorant scene closely.
Market Types
From straightforward markets to highly specific in-game options – mtown88 offers over 80 different markets for every major match.
The most straightforward market – simply pick the team you think will win the overall match. For BO3 and BO5 formats, this means whoever takes more games.
The stronger team is given a negative handicap. Example: Team A (-1.5) must win 2-0 for your bet to win. Team B (+1.5) wins the bet even if they lose 1-2.
Place bets while the match is in progress. Odds update every minute as the game unfolds. The best edge goes to players who can read the game as it happens.
Predict the tournament champion before it begins. Higher odds on underdog teams – a big return opportunity for bettors who know the current meta.
In-game markets for MLBB and Dota 2 – predict which team scores the first kill or destroys the first tower. Payouts processed within minutes.
Predict whether the total kills in a game or match will go over or under a set number. Particularly useful for titles like MLBB, Dota 2, and Valorant.
Useful Tips
You're better off knowing everything about MLBB than knowing a little about every game. Study the current meta, each team's hero pool, the coach's playstyle and key players' track records. Deep, focused knowledge is worth far more than broad, surface-level familiarity.
Player transfers in esports can shift a team's strength dramatically. A team that just signed a star player may be undervalued in the odds, while a team that lost a key player may be overvalued. The best opportunities often appear right after a roster announcement.
Group Stage formats generally allow more room for error compared to Single Elimination. Top teams may not be playing at full intensity during the group stage. Keep this in mind when assessing match odds at mtown88.
In MLBB, the team that wins the first game in a BO3 goes on to win the overall match roughly 65% of the time. This means that if your favourite team drops the first game, their odds will shift upward – potentially offering better betting value at mtown88.
Some teams consistently win or lose against certain opponents regardless of current rankings. Look up head-to-head records on esports sites like Liquipedia or HLTV (for CS2) before placing your bets at mtown88.
E-sports has matches almost every day – the temptation to keep betting is very real. Set a limit on how much you are willing to wager per day and per week, and stick to it even when a match looks like a sure thing.
